What key programming needs

The work has three parts: the right transponder or smart key hardware, a tool that can reach the vehicle immobiliser, and where necessary the ability to read the PIN or CS from a module. When every key to a vehicle is lost, working over OBD is often not enough and data has to be read from the immobiliser module. The IM608 Pro 2 covers both sides.

Spare key or all keys lost?

A spare key is added while a working key is present, and on most vehicles that is a few minutes over OBD. All keys lost means erasing and redefining every key in the system, requires security access, and takes markedly longer depending on the make.

Who uses these tools

Automotive locksmiths and auto electricians who want to offer key services. The hardware cost at the outset is high, but a single all-keys-lost job can be quoted well below the franchised dealer price, so the demand is steady.
