Xhorse VVDI Key Tool Max Pro Key Programmer
The Xhorse VVDI Key Tool Max Pro is a handheld key programmer and remote generator. It merges the remote and transponder functions of the older Key Tool Max with the OBD immobiliser functions of the VVDI Mini OBD Tool, so one device and one cable do the job. A CAN FD module is built in, the unit can run from the OBD socket, and it measures remote battery voltage and leakage current.
Short answer: Max Pro generates remotes, smart keys and garage remotes from Xhorse universal remotes, reads, clones and generates transponders, and adds keys over OBD. CAN FD reaches newer GM models such as Cadillac CT4/CT5, Buick GL8 and Chevrolet Trax; it also covers BMW EWS to CAS3+, part of the Toyota 8A/4D range and TPMS. There is no EEPROM programmer, the menu is English only and updates are free.
What does the Key Tool Max Pro do?
OBD immobiliser matching
Plug the supplied cable into the OBD socket to add keys and, on supported models, run all-keys-lost. No separate Mini OBD Tool needed.
Remote generation
Flip keys, remotes, smart cards, Toyota smart cards and garage door remotes from Xhorse universal remotes; frequency detection and remote cloning.
Transponders
Identify, edit and clone transponders, generate new ones and write from a dump file.
Remote battery and leakage
Battery voltage from 0 to 36 V and leakage current from 1 µA to 35 mA, for remotes only.
TPMS
Programs up to 20 Xhorse XTPMS sensors at once, triggers original and XTPMS sensors at 315 and 433 MHz, copies sensor IDs and reads pressure, temperature and battery.
Service functions
EOBD, DTCs, oil reset, EPB, BMS, throttle, injector, SAS, TEC learn, transmission adaptation and headlamp.
Xhorse says four types of its universal remotes cover more than 3,000 vehicle models: the XK wired series, XN wireless series, XS smart key series and XE super remote series. Wired XK remotes connect through the supplied remote programming cable. A generated remote still has to be matched to the car, which Max Pro does over OBD.

VVDI Key Tool Max Pro car list
The live vehicle list sits inside the device, by make, model and year, and grows with free updates. The items Xhorse highlights:
| Vehicles | Job | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| Cadillac CT4/CT5, Buick GL8/Encore, Chevrolet Cavalier/Trax | OBD key programming | Uses the built-in CAN FD module |
| BMW EWS, CAS1, CAS2, CAS3/CAS3+ | Key programming, ECU ISN | CAS4, FEM and BDC programming not listed |
| BMW BDC2/BDC3, BCP/U | Key cloning | Cloning, not programming a new key to the car |
| Toyota/Lexus 8A and 4D (Corolla, Camry, RAV4, Highlander, Land Cruiser, Prado and others) | Add key and all keys lost, partial | 8A AKL adapter; 8A-A9 all keys lost and 4A/8A-AA not supported |
| Fiat Viaggio and Ottimo smart key, Jeep Renegade MQB48 flip key | Dealer key, add key, all keys lost | — |
| Ford smart key | All keys lost | Ford all-keys-lost cable sold separately |
| New energy vehicles; Honda, Yamaha and other motorcycles | OBD key programming | Model list on the device |
Mercedes EIS/ELV work, infrared reading and bench EEPROM or MCU reading are not on the list. Those jobs, together with BMW CAS4 and FEM/BDC and VAG MQB48 cluster data, belong to the tablet in the same family, the Xhorse VVDI Key Tool Plus Pad.
ID48 96-bit and bonus points
ID48 96-bit cloning is calculated on the Xhorse server and is normally paid per use. On Max Pro, generating 10 brand-new Xhorse remotes earns enough points for the server to open the function free of charge, about two hours later. Points are stored on the Xhorse account rather than the device, so register the account in your own business name from day one.

Key Tool Max Pro vs Key Tool Plus and Autel KM100
If your day is remotes and OBD add-key jobs, Max Pro is enough. If Mercedes, advanced BMW or module data come through the door, you need the Key Tool Plus Pad, which adds DoIP, PROG adapters, Mercedes IR and a 10.1-inch screen. The Autel KM100 is Autel's handheld for programming its own IKEY universal remotes, so the real choice is often which remote stock you carry. For a fair comparison, open your five most common vehicles in both coverage lists. Workshops that also want full diagnostics and J2534 reflashing should look at the Autel IM608 Pro II.
Who is the Max Pro for?
- Locksmiths whose work is mostly remote generation, transponders and OBD add-key jobs
- Mobile locksmiths who want a pocket-size tool powered from the OBD socket
- Shops running an Xhorse Dolphin or Condor cutter that want a second, quick device
- Not for module-data jobs on Mercedes, BMW CAS4/FEM or VAG MQB48, which need the Key Tool Plus Pad, and not a replacement for a full car diagnostic tool
Setup and support
- Coverage check. Send your most common vehicles and we confirm whether Max Pro covers them.
- First start. Choose language and region; the clock defaults to China Standard Time, so we set the local time zone.
- Network and account. Join Wi-Fi (use 2.4 GHz if tethering to a phone), log in or register with an Xhorse account, and link the device.
- Update and first job. App update, restart, database download, then the first remote and key job together by remote session or video call.
Honest note: Max Pro has no EEPROM or MCU programmer, no Mercedes functions and no BMW CAS4 or FEM/BDC programming, and some Toyota 8A types are not supported. The menu is English only. Leakage and voltage tests are designed for remotes only, and Xhorse warns that exceeding the range damages the device. Asking for proof of vehicle ownership before making a key is standard practice.
See all key programmers under auto key equipment and the full range on the Xhorse page. For dedicated tyre pressure tools, see TPMS sensors and equipment; for bench ECU and immobiliser module work, see Xhorse Multi Prog. Brand-licence key work on difficult makes is covered by Abrites AVDI.
