MagicMotorsport Flex ECU and TCU Programmer
MagicMotorsport Flex is a professional ECU programming and chip tuning tool built to read and write engine control units (ECU) and transmission control units (TCU). Made by the Italian manufacturer MagicMotorsport, it combines three working methods in one piece of hardware: through the vehicle's OBD socket, on the bench with the unit removed and powered externally, and in boot mode with direct access to the processor. Flex is not only a tuning tool — it is a general-purpose read/write station used for ECU repair, unit replacement, software restoration and data recovery.
In short: the FLK02.V02 hardware kit plus the software licence you choose. OBD, Bench and Boot support; 22 separate licences; Master and Slave versions; one year of free update subscription included with a software package. With the Korhex add-on, new-generation MDG1 units open through Boot Glitch.
What Is Flex?
Flex is the hardware that reads the software out of an electronic control unit, writes the modified version back, and supplies the power and communication the unit needs while that happens. Two parts come in the box and work together:
- Flex programmer (FLX1.1) — the main unit between the computer and the vehicle or ECU. It runs the communication protocols and validates the licence.
- Flexbox module (FLX1.9) — the second layer that clips onto the programmer. It provides the voltage, timing signals and pin connections a bench unit needs. Bench and boot work is possible because of this module.
What the tool can open is decided not by the hardware but by the software licence you buy. That is what separates Flex from single-price competitors: you buy only the processor families you work on, and add the rest as your volume grows.
What Is in the Box?
The hardware kit carries the code FLK02.V02. Here is what comes out of the box and what each part is for:
Full kit
The complete box: programmer, Flexbox, cables, adapters and power supply.
Programmer and Flexbox
The main unit talks to the computer and the vehicle; the Flexbox on top supplies power and pin connections for bench and boot work.
Adapter set
Ten connectors covering different unit types, compatible with MDG1, EDCxx, EMSxx and Cummins units.
32-pin bench terminal
Quick, solder-free access to the pins of a bench unit. This is the part that actually shortens bench work.
Female OBD cable
For reading and writing carried out through the vehicle's OBD socket.
Power supply
Adapter, USB and connection cables, plus country-specific plug heads.
Important: the hardware does nothing on its own. What the tool can open is decided by the software licence, so at least one licence has to be chosen alongside the hardware. The selector at the top of this page lists every licence with its scope and price.
What Flex Is Used For
Chip tuning
Reads injection, boost, torque and RPM maps out of the engine software and writes the edited file back.
ECU repair
Recovers units with corrupted software, units locked during an update, or interrupted flash sessions via boot.
Unit replacement
Reads the software and adaptation data from the removed unit and transfers it to the new one — the basis of cloning and pairing.
Transmission software
With the TCU licence, reads and writes automatic transmission control units over OBD, boot and bench.
Checksum correction
Corrects the checksum of the edited file before writing; a wrong checksum leaves the unit refusing to start.
Datalogger
Records up to 60,000 real-time parameters: pressure, torque, air, fuel, exhaust gas temperature, speed, RPM and more.
Magic Lock
Prevents unauthorised reading of the file you wrote into the ECU, protecting your own work.
Full backup
Backs up the entire contents of the unit before any operation, so there is always a way back.
Flex Master and Slave: What Is the Difference?
Every licence comes in two versions, and the difference is authority before it is price. Which one suits you depends on who prepares the file.
How Flex Master works
A Master licence hands you the original file read from the unit unencrypted (clear file) in .bin format. You open it in any editing software, work on it and write it back yourself. This is the version for workshops that build their own map library, supply their own customers and serve Slave users. A Master user can also process files sent by the Slave tools linked to them.
How Flex Slave works
A Slave licence costs considerably less. It sends the file it reads, encrypted, to a Master user; when the processed file comes back, Flex writes it. Reading and writing are yours, file preparation belongs to your tuning file provider. A Slave tool is set up against a specific Master, so that relationship has to be decided when you order.

In practice most workshops start on Slave and move to Master as volume and experience grow. Licences can be upgraded later; the hardware does not need to be bought again.

Flex licences are not sold as a single all-inclusive package but split by processor family and working method. The licence selector at the top of this page lists all of them with current prices and calculates the total when you choose one.

New-Generation MDG1 ECUs and Korhex
Manufacturers have protected engine control units heavily in recent years, and the Bosch MDG1 family is the best known example: the classic boot method there required soldering on the board, removing resistors or wiring boot pins by hand — slow work that puts the board at risk.
MagicMotorsport answered this with a separate piece of hardware called Korhex, designed to work together with Flex. Korhex performs the Boot Glitch procedure through EMFI (Electromagnetic Fault Injection) at a specific contact point on the microcontroller. No soldering, no resistor removal, no manual boot wiring.

Operations available through Korhex: read / write / checksum internal flash, read / write internal EEPROM, full backup and boot unlock. The manufacturer quotes roughly 40 seconds for connection and glitch, about 2 minutes to read and about 2 minutes to write.
Licence requirement: using Korhex needs either the FLS0.20 Boot Glitch licence or the FLS0.5 Full package on the Flex side. If you chose the Full package, Boot Glitch is already included.

OBD, Bench and Boot: Which Method, When?
OBD
Reads and writes through the vehicle's OBD-II socket without removing the unit. The fastest and lowest-risk method, and always the first choice when the unit allows it. The FLX2.14 female OBD cable in the box is for this.
Bench
The unit comes out of the vehicle and is powered on the bench. Used where OBD access is closed or writing over OBD would be risky. The Flexbox module and the FLX4.1 32-pin terminal strip give quick, solder-free access to the unit's pins.
Boot
Puts the processor into boot mode for direct access to its memory. Classic boot usually needs a contact or soldered connection on the board. For locked, updated or corrupted units it is often the only way in. On protected new-generation units, Boot Glitch with Korhex takes over and removes the physical intervention.

Flex Software: Setup and Updates
Flex works alongside a Windows computer. The software and driver are installed from the manufacturer's own distribution package; once installed, the tool is connected over USB and the licence is validated.
- Download the Flex setup package. The installer is distributed from the manufacturer's official site. Flex software runs on Windows 10 and later.
- Run the installer as administrator. The USB driver is installed with it; without the driver the tool is not recognised.
- Connect and activate. Flex identifies itself on first connection and your licence is written to the tool.
- Take the updates. The software announces a new version when one is available. Updates bring new unit support and new solutions.
How the update subscription works
Bought with a software package, Flex includes one year of update subscription. During that year new unit support, new solutions and software improvements download at no extra cost. After the first year the tool keeps working; without renewal it simply stops receiving new updates and you continue with the version you have. The subscription can be renewed later.
This matters when comparing tools, because the value of an ECU programmer depends largely on staying current. Recent Flex releases show how coverage grows: 8.15.0.0 brought DAF Delphi solutions, 8.16.0.0 SPC58N support, 8.17.0.0 Mercedes Bosch SPC5777 Boot Glitch with Korhex, and 8.18.0.0 Mercedes Truck CPC5 units.
